The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 从受害者爬升到施害者的行列，现实感十足。经济衰退的背景下，很多陈旧落后的元素卷土重来。主角聪明细心有主意，但也依靠危机四伏中的偶发好运。没有执着于某种固定的“剧情线”，加重了现实环境的危机和不确定感。
