The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. Darren and Annie still enjoy each other’s company and laugh at each other’s jokes, but, unfortunately, they can’t remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a freebie be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? 属于那种80年代老派的浪漫，啊哈，他居然把《出租车司机》又拍了一遍~
在凝炼的整体之下，以与人物目光拥有较多对视时刻的方式逐渐建构起独属于我们与主角的空间。对比文本溢出的前作明显话少的情境才能赢得观众更多的共情，不再是灌输的而是由衷的，这样的情感产生也是余味最悠长的。Tell极少坦露过内心，但在事件渐进下他的脸庞早已言说完关于过去的一切，Robert Levon Been的原声则包含了为过去愁闷的所有情绪。
前作虽然脱离类型框架，但仍在通过形式、内容的同步强化不断凝聚。这一次则在去类型化的道路上继续深入，坚决地反戏剧高潮，提炼空洞的人物形象，电影的质地也变得相对松散，有些像是《老无所惧》的某个局部。
