The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. Darren and Annie still enjoy each other’s company and laugh at each other’s jokes, but, unfortunately, they can’t remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a freebie be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? 黑色电影斥体制，噱头过后尽催眠。
选了打德州扑克的作为切入点着实让人迷茫。关塔那摩ptsd，主线隐藏蛮深，最后复仇的结局让人懵逼。不过看完好一会儿，才感到，后劲很大。
说实话，本作卡斯阵容也相当不错：

一直以为旅馆用布包住会发生什么，结果啥也没有......
和PTA处女作《赌城纵横》一样，几乎没有展现炫酷的赌博技巧的场面，赌博只是背景板。和保罗施拉德一贯的作品风格，创伤过往的主角，自我毁灭与救赎。监狱虐囚部分的夸张鱼眼镜头有意思，但总体完成不如《第一归正会》。奥斯卡伊萨克梳个大背头还是颇有赌神那神韵的。

因为就像他自己也一再强调的，赌博只是打发时间的方式，是手段，不是目的。就像金钱、荣誉和另一位选手高呼的“America”都从来不是目的。重要的，是成为人，是过日子，是重拾爱，是和罪恶的一切搏斗，去寻找救赎和审判罪行。
节奏慢，价值观不主流。William想帮助cirk走出丧父阴影，但失败了。William自己也抛下了最看重的赌局替Cirk复仇，导致自己再度入狱，与爱人分离。披着赌局的外壳，探讨的还是虐囚问题和人性。讽刺的是，有些东西，想摆脱才发现已经刻进了骨髓，当镜头扫过上校家包着白布的家具时，一切已经了然。
“据说，人在被剥夺了自由之后，才能真正了解自己。我在想，你有多了解你自己呢？”
主角和男孩相互救赎的主线引出战争对人的迫害。立意很好，拍得不咋地，四不像。
算牌只是份技能，但电影更多讲的是沉浸过去的痛苦回忆，复仇和救赎。
Schrader donne ici une masterclass de comment filmer le vide en plaçant au centre de son film une figure évidée incarnée majestueusement par un Oscar Isaac glacial au visage presque figé inexpressif. Comme un fantôme du passé traumatisant qui hante le présent, le héro ne cesse d'errer dans des lieux publics impersonnels ambiancés par une mise en scène sèche et sidérante. Conte cruel dans une Amérique sans échappatoire ni rédemption possible.

这片子看的我是真的无聊。很久没看这么无聊的片子了。
7.5 导演拯救剧本。并非如通常般着重展现赌牌、监狱、报仇这样充满“男子气概”重头戏，转而聚焦情感的流动表达。
深渊永远是深渊，凝视是残忍的，无论如何视而不见，它总就在那里。(没看懂、也不会再看….
虽然节奏感有些迷，爱情线有些画蛇添足，架不住这依旧是部迷人的电影啊。和first reformed有一脉相承的风格，但可是强多了。配乐太棒
21/10/4：施拉德年轻的时候还能写俩本子，做导演他可能缺乏写基本功和想象力。
