电影的叙述线主要有两条，一条是小说家津田在一家酒吧做酒保，于是这个酒吧就自然地成为了他与编辑见面的场所，他请编辑在这里阅读自己新写的小说，探讨剧情，在这个过程中编辑越来越觉得他写的内容并非虚构，而是真事，为了不给出版社带来麻烦而不得已到现实中进行印证，毕竟这个作家有“前科”，因为上一部小说里面使用了真名真事而让出版社吃了官司。另一条线则是伴随着叙述而将小说中的故事逐渐展现出来。
