The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 江口洋介你脸上沟沟壑壑的演十年前也就算了怎么头发还是掺杂白发的喂！！！年下未成年小奶狗什么的真的太棒了一定比钻石还硬吧（危险危险危险）最后的结局又衔接上了第一部的开篇这完美的闭环果然还是用来衬托演员们都老了吧（唏嘘）
以始作终，打斗画面犀利、不含糊，尤其开头屋内那段刺杀更是远超前面几作。画面精美，和雪代巴的感情更是描绘得细腻到位，也为后面拔刀斋的经历铺垫了情感基础。可谓是最优秀的前传，或是终传 @Netflix

202111** 按照时间线来说，本作理应排在早两月上线的人诛篇之前，不过刻意作为压轴其实更加出彩，与副标题——追忆篇一脉相承！本作以剑心脸上的十字疤作了最好的诠释，从幕末到维新初期成为最为令人惊悚的刺客，可谓是出道之作。额外补一句，雪代巴的扮相实在讨人怜，自古红颜多薄命，剑心注定了悲凉而终的一生！
没有ova那种感觉，整体还是更商业化一点，有纯架村的妆很努力的向巴的方向靠拢了，但是怎么说呢，动画可能还是有动画的优势，电影的表现力比起动画来说还是弱了一点
这部文戏过多，动作戏一般，最后bgm响起来的时候DNA动了，村花好看呀！

《追忆篇》——最为成功的改编，最好的一部“剑心”。他拔出刀，她流泪；他对着萝卜笑，她笑着流泪。巴，重新定义并改变“剑心”的女人。如果说也有不尽人意的地方，那就是怎么也寻不见的土方岁三，还有不忍直视的冲田总司的月代头。
狗血虐恋，节奏慢到抠脚，总司丑得令人发指，长这样就别玩病弱吐血美少年那套了吧真·辣眼睛
这其实应该当做第一集，而不是最后一集，东亚维新唯一成功的国家，霓虹。
片尾曲很喜欢。很有这部坠落的失去感。

大友拍文戏真的不行，没有漫画加持、就影像呈现的画面你难理解巴心路历程上的变化，再加上毫无西皮感的男女主，生生把好故事拍得让人昏昏欲睡。就演员而言，十年剑心，归来的佐藤健正脸已不少年，演技也过于故作深沉，反倒是第一印象完全不适合巴的村花交出了能力范围上限的表现，高桥和江口虽然戏份不多但都挺抢眼。
剧情紧凑，格局很大，打斗招招见血，出血量让人惊叹。拔刀斋（佐藤健）牛批！
乱世动荡、血雨腥风、一声承诺、一生承诺。雪之下，情之殇。
